Gel eyeshadow products are not new in the Philippine market but the ones that were available before were from international makeup brands. Don't quote me on this but I think Spotlight Cosmetics is the first Filipino Makeup Brand that released a gel eyeshadow that truly works for Philippine weather. I've been using this since March 2021 and haven't experienced the problems I've had with similar products in the past. If you have oily eyelids that tend to give you raccoon eyes, then keep on reading!
Spotlight Cosmetics Scene Stealer Gel Eyeshadow Swatches, Price, and Where to Buy
What is Spotlight Cosmetics Scene Stealer Gel Eyeshadow?
Spotlight Cosmetics Scene Stealer Gel Eyeshadow is a creamy gel-based eyeshadow product packaged in pots or small jars. It is available in 5 colors and retails for under P300 pesos each or around $6. The product transforms and sets into a powder after it dries so it doesn't feel heavy or slippery on eyelids.
Most eyeshadow products are available as a powder or in pressed powder form so a lot of people may be intimidated to use something like this. As for myself, I like gel eyeshadow because it is easy to apply and really stays longer on my oily eyelids as compared to powder eyeshadow. You can also use gel eyeshadow as a primer for eye makeup or a base for your vavavoom makeup looks.
Packaging is in small twist cap glass jars that look like the ones for professional-grade makeup lines.
It also comes in a box that really reminds me of MAC products however, unlike MAC products,
Spotlight Cosmetics is Cruelty-Free, yay! Each box comes with information such as the shade name, manufacturing date, manufacturing code, ingredients, how to use, ETC. Spotlight Cosmetics is also Paraben-Free! Owner is Ever Bilena group of companies but this seems to be a collab with another company? or maybe it's just a partnership? No idea because no clear details online.
Spotlight Cosmetics Scene Stealer Gel Eyeshadow comes in 5 shades but I only have 4 namely: Sassy Bronze, Feisty Plum, Glitzy White, Dreamy Champagne.
Each one comes in a jar with a protective cap so it doesn't just spill. With this said, I've observed that the product gets a bit runny when it is warm so be careful when opening to avoid spills. I wish they packaged this in a squeezable tube so will be spill-proof and more hygienic aside from preventing the product from drying.
Spotlight Cosmetics Scene Stealer Gel Eyeshadow Swatches
Don't be alarmed if some look more congealed while some seem too runny. They all dry to a powdery finish and lasts up to 12 hours especially when set with a dusting of translucent powder or powder eyeshadow. Even without that they still last at least 5 hours on my oily eyelids.
Shades from L-R are Glitzy White, Dreamy Champagne, Feisty Plum, Sassy Bronze
I am missing the pink shade but you can achieve a similar shade by mixing Glitzy White and Feisty Plum.
The above is how they look like after the Spotlight Cosmetics Scene Stealer Gel Eyeshadow Swatches are blended and allowed to dry. They can be really vibrant but you can apply sparingly for a sheer finish.
The above is a swatch of all colors mixed together. Drying time is about 2 minutes. You will need a makeup remover to take this off.
Note that the product tends to stick on the cap and be like a gel/pudding consistency. This is fine and I have not noticed any problem with the performance even after it gets like this. I really wish they packaged this in a squeezable tube to avoid drying and congealing issues like this. I also wish they got a deep blue, a charcoal gray, and perhaps a forest green.
Spotlight Cosmetics Scene Stealer Gel Eyeshadow Review Summary
Overall I give this a 4.7/5. The only thing I got an issue with is the packaging but that is forgiven because as a brand, they also had to make sure to use familiar packaging to appeal to the masses. Product is easy to apply, lasts almost the entire day, beginner-friendly, and performed beyond my expectations at a price-point that's super masa. I even recommend this to budding makeup artists!
