Aztec Secrets Healing Clay Review + DIY Aztec Clay Hacks for Sensitive Skin

I've been using the Aztec Secret Healing Clay as a mask since late 2014 so I guess a review is finally in order! I'll also be sharing some DIY Aztec Clay Mask recipes and tweaks to make the mask work better for my sensitive skin so keep on reading if you want to hear more!

Aztec Secrets Healing Clay Review

So first off, what is the Aztec Secrets Indian Healing Clay thingy, to begin with?

The Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay is a powder product that you can use on your face as a mask or detoxifying wrap/soak for your body when mixed with any of the following: water, apple cider vinegar, essential oils, plan extracts, milk. It contains no additives, is 100% natural, contains no fragrances and animal products. It is also cruelty free as it is not tested on animals.

The product description from the manufacturers mention that Cleopatra herself used clay from the Nile as part of her beauty regimen and that the Romans also used clay as a pack and for their spas over 4,500 years ago. They also said that clay packs, masks, and poultices are currently being used in luxurious spas all over the world for its supposedly wondrous effects.

I've only used my Aztec Clay as a mask and wrap plus one time as a detox foot soak so while I can't attest to the validity of all the manufacturer's claims, I can say that the Aztec Secrets Healing Clay is true to its claims for the purposes I use it for.

How To Use Aztec Secrets Clay Mask?

The information you need to create your own clay mask from the Aztec Clay is right in the packaging.
1. It says that you should mix equal parts of the clay and apple cider vinegar until it forms a paste.
2. Let it stand for a few minutes if you have sensitive skin,
3. apply,
4. let dry a bit to feel the pulling sensation,
5. and then wash off after 5-10 minutes for sensitive skin or up to 15 minutes after for normal skin.

I've tried the instructions above multiple times over the years and although I got good results, I find that the clay becomes too stiff if you wait until it's really drying up and that the 1:1 ratio of the clay and apple cider vinegar is too stiff/thick/gloopy for me.

My Aztec Clay Hack #1

What I find that works for me is make the mask 2 parts vinegar and 1 part clay or sometimes 1 part each of Aztec Clay, water, and apple cider vinegar. This results in a thinner mixture that is less irritating on my skin and easier to remove. I also remove the mixture in 5-8 minutes.

Sure I don't get the pulsing effect (that is super drying by the way, beware if you have dehydrated skin!) but I get oil control, no painful removal, acne control, and cleaner pores. That's a win for me!

The information you needed to know are also written in French and Spanish on the packaging.

DIY Aztec Clay for Sensitive Skin Demo

As mentioned above, the clay is in powder form that resembles loose powder makeup.

I find that the easiest and best formula for a DIY Aztec Clay Mask is just the clay and apple cider vinegar. For the demo part I will be using my Aztec Clay hack, which is making a thinner mixture with 1 part each of water, clay, and apple cider vinegar.

Be sure that you use a non-metal container for mixing!

It is totally normal for the mixture to bubble.

It is okay to use as soon as it is fully mixed up.

As you can see, I only slathered on about 1/8th to 1/6th inch thickness of the mixture. Any more than that is just waste anyway. I let the mask stay on for 5-8 minutes and rinse off with room temperature water and end with a splash of cool water.

See! No redness and the mask washes right off! You get the anti-acne benefits for your sensitive skin without the pain!

I'll share my DIY Aztec Clay mask recipes on my next post on the topic! I bought my Tub for P445 at Healthy Options SM North EDSA.
