To be honest, taupe colors don't really suit my skin tone unless I slather on the black and go for intense

Cathy Doll Nude Me Eyeshadow In Smoky Review
I was immediately smitten by the mix of warm nude shades for the top row and the cool-toned taupe shades at the bottom row in this smoky palette. Aren't they so pretty?
Cathy Doll Smoky Palette has both cool tones (bottom row) and warm tones (top row). Love the inclusion of the matte black! |

I got this palette as a press sample after attending the Cathy Doll Nude Me collection launch last week. My two nieces helped in testing out the palettes with me.
Doesn't the Smoky palette remind you of the Naked 2 palette from Urban Decay? See swatches below!

The Cathy Doll Nude Me eyeshadow palettes have 3 variants and they all come in individual boxes. The Cathy Doll trademark of cutesy packaging was there as usual. I really appreciate that you can view tall the eyeshadow shades without opening the packaging.
The packaging for the eyeshadow is made from a similar plastic used in other drugstore or affordable makeup palettes. It's made for efficiency in protecting the product inside so it isn't fancy at all, just cute and functional.
The palette's back show details such as how many grams of product are inside, until when you can use the eyeshadow after initial use, the product's name in both English and Korean, and surprisingly, the manufacturer's contact number along with the manufacturer's website.
Just like the Cathy Doll Pink Champagne palette. this Smoky version claims to be long wearing without primer (oh lala!).
There are 12 pretty shades in the palette. The top row is composed of warm nudes and golds and the bottom row is made of taupes plus a matte black. The shadows come in 3 finishes - matte, satin, and shimmery finishes!
The palette comes with a dual-ended sponge tip applicator with the brand name Cathy Doll printed in the middle. I wish the palette has a mirror but hey, that isn't a deal breaker for me!
Cathy Doll Pink Champagne Palette Swatches
Cathy Doll Nude Me Smoky Palette Swatches without primer (using fingers) |
Here are the swatches!
I swatched the eyeshadows over my hand without primer using my fingers. If you take a look at the palette in the background, you can see that I barely touched the makeup in the pans to create swatches.
Looks can be deceiving by the way, because although the pan size is just the same as a 25 centavo peso coin, each pan contains 1 full gram of product. Not bad, eh?
shade descriptions of the eyeshadows in the Cathy Doll Smoky Palette |
I thought it would be great to describe each shade so please use the photo above as a reference since the shades in the palette are not named.
Shade 1 - a matte cream or light beige for blending, highlighting, and for use as a base color.
Shade 2 - a shimmery gold. The pigment is a bit lacking in this shade though but perhaps because this is meant for highlighting or accentuating the eyes?
Shade 3 - a satin light peachy beige.
Shade 4 - a shimmery slightly muted copper.
Shade 5 - a matte true taupe or a medium very cool-toned brown.
Shade 6 - a shimmery mix of old gold and chocolate brown.
Shade 7 - a shimmery brownish taupe.
Shade 8 - a shimmery grayish taupe. The shine can overpower the pigment on this one.
Shade 9 - a shimmery blushed silver taupe. This swatches very light
Shade 10 - a shimmery light brown with a touch of pink. Like a cross between rose gold and milk chocolate.
Shade 11 - a satin deep taupe-brown.
Shade 12 - a matte black but can look like a very dark gray in some light. This is the 'hardest' shade on touch but swatches nicely.
Cathy Doll Pink Champagne Palette Summary
Shades: 3 matte shades, 2 satins, and 7 shimmery shades.
Pigmentation: no chalkiness though the matte black has a certain degree of hardness to it. The color saturation isn't like the Pink Champagne palette but could be just taupe shades don't look nice against my skin. Don't expect Urban Decay or Lorac but comparable to Sleek (which costs almost twice so not bad).
Texture: I won't call the shadows buttery but they glide easily and are blendable enough especially if you use a compact flat shader brush or pencil brush...or use the included sponge tip applicator.
Wear time: Almost full day without primer (I got oily lids) and up to 10 hours with primer..better than what I expected.
Value for money: The palette is only P499 so it performs okay for the price but I prefer the pink one.
Where to Buy: You can purchase yours at Zalora, Watsons/SM Beauty, and maybe some 711s.
Overall rating: 3.8/5
Is the Cathy Doll Nude Me Smoky Palette a dupe for Naked 2?
Yes and NO.
If you're hunting for a taupe palette then this is better than other similar 'dupes' out there (better than Maybelline, closer to the BYS one) but as I've said, don't expect that this will be the same as Urban Decay eyeshadows.
By the way, Maybelline's version retails for P675, BYS is P1,100, and Urban Decay is $55. This retails for P499. See what I mean?
