NYX Face Awards Philippines - The Good , The Bad, and the Controversy
So, what's the truth?
I really don't know, but seeing that this is pinay beauty news worth sharing, I'm sharing!
All the drama followed after 6pm onwards, Philippine time yesterday, April 26, 2017 after NYX posted the announcement of the Face Awards Philippines finalists...
Much of the issues that surfaced were about accusations that some of the finalists were rule breakers and didn't follow the mechanics.
To be fair, NYX did say that those who wanted to join must post a link to their finished look in social media, as can be seen from this poster at the NYX Philippines FB Page.
So it wasn't like those who did post on social media wanted to violate the rules posted at the Face Awards Ph page.
There were also some issues about people claiming that the submission was extended to a week later than the original date because NYX allegedly wanted their favorites to join.
Frankly, I think that the submission deadline had to be extended because they announced the competition quite late (it was announced March 30, 2017), and it wasn't even properly announced IMHO. I have no issues with this and enjoyed the parade of entries...however, I understand how some people who tried their best to submit their looks before April 18 would feel, seeing that a lot of the finalists are from submissions during the extra long grace period.
Some fans couldn't help but express their disappointment when their faves didn't make it.
I'm thinking NYX disqualified this MUA's entry thinking he's not from the Philippines (his FB and IG says he is currently in HK, but wow, he's talented!!!!). I'm also thinking they did so because of the possible logistics issue they'd have when they send out the kits that are usually sent to finalists after each round of Nyx Face Awards.
EDIT: It was already May 8 when some of the top 30 got ther top 30 boxes, so yeah, logistics is indeed an issue.
These are not all peeps...
Some people expressed confusion about the prevalence of special effects makeup and body painting, saying that NYX Cosmetics do not even carry products for those branches of makeup application.
I'm baffled about this as well, but perhaps NYX simply wants to be known as a versatile brand?
I mean, they did kinda call for special effects and body painting entries. They kept posting stuff like the screenshot below during the entirety of the submission process.
What do I think?
I think there were some issues about the clarity of the rules but at the same time, I can't help but be happy about the results seeing that this is the first ever NYX Face Awards in the Philippines.
I'm excited about what's in store for the finalists and glad to have come across outstanding artists...and I mean each and everyone who submitted an entry, all 120+ amazing talented individuals!
I hope those who didn't make it this time won't take not being chosen as a setback. Pia Wurtzbach did join Binibini 3X before bagging the crown that gave her the chance to win the Miss Universe crown, and WIN IT is what she did!
Looking forward to the rest of the competition in the days ahead!
Let's stay connected!
